TRAFFITECH-GH Full Rollout Moved to November 1: What Every Ghanaian Motorist Should Do Now

Industry News | Sep 30, 2026

Ghanaian motorists have been given extra time. The Ghana Police Service, through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), has rescheduled the full implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH, its automated traffic law enforcement programme, from 1st October to 1st November 2026.

The announcement was made in a press release dated 29th September 2026.

What is TRAFFITECH-GH?

TRAFFITECH-GH is an automated system for enforcing traffic laws. Offending motorists will be issued Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV). The Police say the programme is part of wider efforts to curb indiscipline on Ghana's roads and improve compliance with road traffic laws and regulations.

Why the delay?

According to the Police, the extra month is meant to allow for wider public education and awareness on:

  • How the programme operates
  • Which traffic offences will be detected
  • How Electronic Notices of Violation will be issued to offending motorists

The Service urges motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to use this period to familiarise themselves with the programme before the full rollout.

How to use the next month wisely

Here is a practical checklist to get ready before 1st November:

  1. Learn the rules. Review the Road Traffic Regulations and follow official Police communications on which offences the system will detect.
  2. Check your documents. Make sure your driver's licence, vehicle registration, roadworthy certificate and insurance are valid and up to date.
  3. Renew your insurance early. At a minimum, Ghana law requires valid third-party motor insurance. If your policy is close to expiry, renew it now rather than at the last minute.
  4. Brief everyone who drives your vehicle. If family members, employees or drivers use your car, make sure they understand the programme and drive within the law.
  5. Fleet owners, take note. If you manage commercial vehicles, review driver conduct and paperwork across your fleet, since violations may affect operations and costs.
  6. Stay informed. Follow verified Police channels for updates, and be wary of unofficial messages about notices or payments.

Automated enforcement is a reminder that responsible driving protects your wallet as well as your life. Good driving habits and the right insurance cover give you peace of mind, whatever the road throws at you.
